10 KLD Sewage Treatment Plant — MBBR
Compact MBBR solution for apartments, hostels, schools & small commercial buildings — designed for 20 hours/day operation
Process Summary
Raw sewage → Bar screen & O&G trap → Collection / Equalization (disc diffusers) → Raw sewage transfer pump (cutter/grinder option) → MBBR Aeration Tank (PP media + blower) → Secondary clarifier (RAS) → Clarified water tank → PSF → ACF → Hypo dosing → Final Treated Water Tank (Reuse: gardening, flushing, wash).
Design Basis (10 KLD)
| Parameter | Value / Assumption |
|---|---|
| Design daily flow (Qd) | 10,000 L/day |
| Operating hours | 20 hours/day |
| Design hourly flow (Qh) | 10,000 / 20 = 500 L/hr |
| Influent BOD (typical) | ~300 mg/L |
| Target effluent | BOD < 30 mg/L after polishing |
Tank Sizing & Equipment (Indicative)
| Unit | HRT / Note | Volume (L) |
|---|---|---|
| Collection / EQ Tank (disc diffusers) | 6 hours | 500 × 6 = 3,000 |
| Bar screen & O&G | 0.5–1 hr | ~500 |
| MBBR Reactor (media filled) | 6 hr HRT; media carriers in aeration | 3,000 |
| Secondary Clarifier | 2 hr settling; RAS & wasting | 1,000 |
| Clarified water tank | buffer for PSF feed | ~300 |
| Final treated water tank | reuse buffer | ~500 |
| Sludge holding | intermediate | ~500–1000 |
MBR Media Details (MBBR only)
- Media Type: Virgin PP / HDPE bio-carrier
- Shape: Cylindrical / K1 / proprietary carriers
- Surface Area: 350–500 m²/m³ (typical)
- Filling Ratio: 50–60% by reactor volume (as confirmed)
- Advantage: Higher surface area → compact unit, better BOD removal & resilience to shock loads
Process Flow (detailed)
1. Toilets & waste → Bar screen (coarse removal) → O&G trap
2. To Collection / Equalization tank with disc diffusers (mixed & buffer)
3. Raw sewage transfer pump (cutter/grinder where required) → MBBR reactor (PP media + aeration via blower)
4. Secondary clarifier (settling). RAS (return activated sludge) pumped back to MBBR; excess sludge to sludge holding & dewatering.
5. Clarified water to Clarified Water Tank → Filter feed pump → PSF → ACF → Hypo dosing (online dosing) → Final Treated Water Tank.
2. To Collection / Equalization tank with disc diffusers (mixed & buffer)
3. Raw sewage transfer pump (cutter/grinder where required) → MBBR reactor (PP media + aeration via blower)
4. Secondary clarifier (settling). RAS (return activated sludge) pumped back to MBBR; excess sludge to sludge holding & dewatering.
5. Clarified water to Clarified Water Tank → Filter feed pump → PSF → ACF → Hypo dosing (online dosing) → Final Treated Water Tank.
Operation & Maintenance
- Disc diffusers keep EQ tank mixed and reduce septicity.
- Monitor DO in reactor (target DO 2.0–3.5 mg/L).
- Check media movement & fouling; occasional carrier cleaning if required.
- Maintain blower & perform periodic check of diffusers.
- Wasting frequency for sludge controlled to maintain MLSS and biofilm health.
