RRR ENVIRO SYSTEMS
Paper & Pulp Industry ETP — 50 to 500 KLD
Turnkey ETP solutions for pulp mills, paper mills, board plants and paper converting units. We handle high color, high COD/TSS, bleaching effluents and provide DAF, biological treatment, AOP, RO/ZLD and sludge management to meet TNPCB / CPCB discharge & reuse requirements.
About Paper & Pulp Effluent
Pulp & paper effluent typically contains high COD/BOD, color from lignin & dyes, suspended solids, bleaching chemicals (chlorine/chlorinated compounds where older technologies used), inorganic fillers, and sometimes high TDS. Treatment objectives: remove BOD/COD, reduce color and TSS, detoxify bleaching byproducts, and enable safe discharge or reuse.
Site-specific characteristics (kraft, sulfite, TMP, CTMP, coated board operations) determine exact unit selection. We always start with sample analysis & treatability tests.
Typical Pollutants
- COD / BOD (often high; varies by process)
- Colour (lignin, soluble organics)
- Total Suspended Solids (TSS) — fiber, fillers
- Oil & Grease (process oils, sizing agents)
- Chlorinated organics (if bleaching with chlorine)
- Nutrients (N, P) and occasional heavy metals
Recommended Process Flow (Generic)
We customise sequence per mill type — below is a standard robust flow that covers most paper & pulp operations:
DAF is commonly used to remove fiber & floatable matter after coagulation. AOP (ozone / UV-H2O2 / Fenton) helps colour and refractory organics removal before RO or discharge.
Key Technologies We Provide
Physico-Chemical
- Coagulation & Flocculation (FeCl₃ / Alum / PAC)
- DAF / Lamella Clarifier
- pH correction & neutralization
Biological
- MBBR (recommended for variable loads)
- ASP / SBR (proven, cost-effective)
- MBR (for high-quality discharge / reuse)
Advanced & Polishing
- AOP (Ozone / UV-H₂O₂ / Fenton)
- GAC for TOC & colour reduction
- UF / RO for reuse and ZLD feed
Chemicals & Purpose (Indicative)
- Coagulants: Ferric chloride, Aluminium sulphate (Alum), PAC — turbidity & colour removal
- Flocculants: Polymers (cationic/anionic) — improve settling & DAF performance
- pH Adjusters: Lime, Caustic, Sulfuric — neutralization & precipitation
- AOP Reagents: Hydrogen peroxide, Ozone, Fenton reagents — colour & refractory organics
- Defoamers & Antiscalants: For membrane protection
Exact selection and doses are decided after jar tests and pilot runs.
Example: 100 KLD ETP — Typical Scope
| Item | Typical Detail |
|---|---|
| Design Flow | 100 KLD (daily average) |
| Influent | High COD (1000–5000 mg/L), high TSS, colour from lignin & dyes |
| Primary | Screening → Equalization → Coagulation + DAF |
| Biological | MBBR (staged aeration) for BOD removal & nitrification |
| Polishing | GAC → UF/RO (if reuse required) |
| Sludge | Thickener + Filter Press; sludge handling as per PCB |
| Automation | PLC + sensors (pH, DO, level, turbidity); optional SCADA |
All values indicative — final design after site survey, sample testing and pilot trials.
ZLD & Reuse Options
- UF/RO for water recovery; RO concentrate treated with MEE / ATFD + crystallization
- AOP prior to RO to reduce refractory organics and protect membranes
- Resource recovery: fiber reuse, sludge combustion/mono-landfill (site-specific)
- Techno-commercial feasibility & energy estimates provided for ZLD projects
